Lumières
Karekare. I spent the bulk of June planning, practicing and then trying to get this shot. I’ve not done any serious astro photography in the past. So while I knew all the mechanics, settings and rules (500 rule ect) it was still new territory. Unsure if I’d be around next year I wanted something that stood apart from my previous efforts. Finally everything came together. A clear night. A late rising moon, and an incoming tide matching the twilight hour. The sun set, twilight began and the cliffs behind me became more and more ominous. I took test shots intermittently to keep my settings aligned with the decreasing light and listened to the seals cavorting on the other side of the outcrop. Time passed and the twilight hour was almost over without me getting the shot I wanted. Waves crashed, water suddenly rushed toward me only stopping centimeters from the foremost tripod leg before receding. Dull matte sand was replaced with a rippled mirror reflecting the silhouette of the rock outcrop . 20 seconds later the final snap-click of my camera’s shutter sounded as the twilight ended.
I have no idea if this photo will display correctly on all phones/devices. You may see some color banding and artifacts that don’t exist on the original due to IG’s down sampling or limitations of your device.
Dedicated to my mother on her birthday.
